Short bio

Introduced to guitar by her singer/songwriter father at age 9, Michelle Swan entered the Baltimore-Washington area music scene in 1990. Performing at open-mics and coffeehouses, her music is self-reflective and acutely observant, deftly weaving lyric and note together to create songs that tell of sentiments and circumstances nonetheless familiar to everyone.

Michelle Swan studied classical musical and clarinet performance at Towson State University. She loves to perform in house concerts and other small spaces because they are wonderful opportunities to get to know the music community and interact closely with fans.

"As the title of her new CD "I Feel" implies, Michelle Swan clearly feels all of life's permutations, warts and all, but she is blessed with an amazing ability to translate that into poetry and song, the kind that stays with you long after you've stopped listening. The simplicity of her lyrics belies the complex messages, and the web of intricate guitar work she weaves. The pure honesty of her vocal instrument is rare and the perfect complement to the equally honest lyrical content. One thing Michelle will NEVER do....and that's hold back in any way...musically, vocally, lyrically, or personally. Nothing halfway about the experience of her live show, and NOBODY sings quite like Michelle Swan!"

"I've worked with Michelle from the stage of "Blue Heaven" in Key West to the stage of the Weinberg Center in Frederick, MD when I booked her to open up for Tom Paxton at the Maryland Folk Festival that I produced. The audience absolutely loves the way she paints a story with the words she sings. Her songs touch on the human condition of playing the cards that life dealt us as best we can, and never forgetting, as we say in Key West we are "One Human Family"

"Michelle Swan's songs grabbed my attention. First her nuanced guitar work caught me and then her lyrics had me leaning in to listen. A fine singer/songwriter opens doors within ourselves. Michelle's music does just that. "
